Act, direct, manage, learn:
We need more than actors. And performers and singers and whatever you can do, we'll take it! Here are three ways to get started:
1. Check our news page for member education courses, audition schedules, and future productions;
2. Join us at a monthly meeting;
3. Email us and tell us your specific goal - we'll help you get started! Feel free to use the contact form, or email
us at [email protected]

Submit a script or show idea:
We are always interested in new works, especially by local writers. The financial reward will be minimal (or less ...), but you will have a staged production on your resume! Submit your pdf script to [email protected] or mail a copy to us at PO Box 1047, Bandon OR 97411. We will contact you within 30 days of receipt.
If you have a proposal for a new idea, an unscripted show, or an established play, tell us the details by submitting a Program Proposal (available here).

Research a Play:
If you’ve got an idea for a Bandon Playhouse program, we want to hear it! Here are a few tips to help you get started researching published plays and musicals.
Get to Know the Program
Is the show a good match for the Playhouse and Bandon? Be sure to read the play script and, if it's a musical, listen to the music. Movie and stage versions often are quite different. Be aware of the play length, talent level needed (from acting to makeup to effects), and if the subject matter is relatable for our audiences.
Many scripts and cast recordings are available through the public library. Plays may be published alone or in anthologies with other plays. New and used copies are also available from a variety of publishers and book sellers. Cast recordings may be available on Spotify, iTunes, YouTube, or Google Play. Professional video recordings of stage plays and musicals are less common, but are available for some productions.
Investigate Performance Royalties
The license to perform a play or musical is typically paid to a publisher, and those fees include royalties paid to the play writing team. In addition, publishers sell or rent copies of scripts and librettos. An internet search is the best way to find up to date license information. In your internet browser, type the words “license” or “performance rights” and the name of the play or musical. The larger publishers include Samuel French, Dramatists Play Service, and Music Theatre International.
Some publishers, including Dramatists Play Service, provide licensing costs in the information displayed about the work on that play’s web page. Some publisher websites, including Samuel French and Music Theatre International, provide a cost estimator tool. Independent publishers may simply provide a contact form for inquiries.
Older plays that fall into "public domain" are generally royalty-free, but only if performed using the original script. A different author's update or modified version of that play (such as newer versions of Dicken's A Christmas Carol) are generally subject to copyright protections and royalties.
Restricted or Unavailable Titles
Some works are listed as restricted, meaning the number of productions is limited within a calendar year or within a geographic region. We may not be able to produce a show if the same title is in production by another group in Southwestern Oregon. Foreign plays may not be available in the U.S. Feel free to submit your proposal, and the production committee can research availability.
Estimating a License - Details
If you’re using a cost estimator tool on a publisher website, you’ll need to answer some questions about the production and venue. Here are a few guidelines for estimating Bandon Playhouse shows.
-Number of performances: 6 or 9
-Ticket price: $10-$15 is average
-Maximum audience: 246 if using the Sprague Community Theater
Be sure to let us know if the license costs include the cost of the scripts, or if that is an additional charge.
